What Will My Baby Look Like Genetics? Baby Hair Color
From the moment the baby’s mother appears in the belly, parents try to predict what gender it will be, and of course, what will my baby look like in genetics. In fact, this can be done thanks to modern technology. But you can find out the hair color yourself right now. Today in the article we will just discuss this topic and suggest that will my baby have hair in general.
What Color Will My Baby’s Hair Be?
In general, newborns’ hair color is formed during conception, when the sperm enters the egg. According to the standard, the zygote has 46 chromosomes, 23 each from the mother and the same number from the father. Along with this data, genetic characteristics are laid down, such as hair color, eyes, skin tone, gender, and more. In addition, such combinations of information will always be as unique as possible, because you cannot find more people with such features in DNA. Children can be more like a mother, and at the same time, others – like a father.
Let’s define which hair color is dominant. Each gene is made up of alleles. They can be dominant and reactive. Here, the dominant color will be dark hair, and light, respectively, will be recyclable. Thus, it can be assumed that if one of the parents has light brown hair, and the other has brown hair, then the child will definitely have brown hair color. This isn’t entirely true, because there are several alleles.
In addition, we don’t deny the fact that hair can be of different shades. That is why it is important to take into account the type of human hair pigment, as well as how it is distributed, in determining the baby’s hair color predictor.
How Is Hair Color Determined?
As we said above, when determining hair color, you need to pay attention to the characteristics of the parents’ hair, pigmentation, and its types. Let’s continue the story with brown and light brown hair. Hair color genetics may not always give your child brown hair, even though this is the dominant color. An exception is the presence of two alleles for blond hair. It’s the same story with eye color. If one of the parents has blue eyes, and the other has brown, then it is most likely that the child will have exactly brown eyes.
It is interesting to know that in children of albino pigmentation may be negligible or even absent. This obviously affects the color of the skin, hair, and eyes. This is due to a gene mutation. Such mutations can be completely different, that is, albinism can affect people in different ways. That is why all albinos are fair-skinned, have blond hair, eyelashes and eyebrows, and blue eyes. It definitely causes visual impairment and high sensitivity to the sun. But it should be understood that such a disease doesn’t appear on its own. It is usually inherited if the parents also have the gene for the mutation (but they may not necessarily have this problem).
Why Does Hair Darken With Age?
Surely you have ever noticed, and perhaps even by your own example, that with age, the shade of the hair can become much darker. This happens quite often and is completely normal. Let’s take a closer look. This is due to changes in the production of melanin, a natural pigment responsible for hair, eye, and skin color. There are two types of melanin: eumelanin, which determines how dark your hair should be, and pheomelanin, which controls the warmth of the color. In other words, black-haired people produce more eumelanin, and red-haired people produce more pheomelanin. Melanocytes are cells located at the bottom of each hair follicle; they produce pigment according to your genes.
However, genes don’t send signals to melanocytes to produce melanin in the same sequence throughout your life – hormones can activate or deactivate certain genes. When does baby hair change? When a baby reaches puberty, for example, latent genes can be activated and create much more eumelanin than before, causing your curls to darken. But usually, this process can also end by the age of 5, after which the child’s hair will always be darker.
We are sure that it was interesting for you to hear about what determines hair color and other interesting things about your child’s hair. Analyze your own hair and the child’s daddy’s hair to roughly predict what kind of hair your baby will have in the near future. Surely it will be interesting for you to speculate what kind of hairstyle will be. Here, already show your imagination and collect a rough portrait of a child. This will be an interesting and fun activity before your baby is born soon.
